Bring your regular supplies for painting in watercolour.

Marianne’s suggested supply list is as follows:

Tube paints: Professional quality paints e.g. Winsor and Newton, Da Vinci, Stevensons, Holbein, Lukas or Daler Rowney. Note that student quality paints e.g. Cotman and Van Gogh are less expensive but the same results cannot be expected and experience is that many colours will fade.

The following colours will be required:
  • Quinacridone rose or Permanent rose
  • Winsor red or Cadmium red
  • Ultramarine blue or French ultramarine
  • Cobalt blue
  • Aurolein yellow or Winsor yellow
  • Burnt sienna
  • Raw sienna
OPTIONAL COLOURS:
  • Sap Green
  • Indeian Yellow or New Gamboge
  • Quinacridone gold
  • Cerulean blue
  • Warm orange (Daler Rowney) or Cadmium orange
  • Viridian or Winsor (phthalo) green
  • Cobalt violet
Brushes:

Synthetic watercolour brushes work well (some people prefer sable for round brushes)
  • ½’, Ύ” flat synthetic – clear plastic handle, beveled end
  • 1 ½” or 2” flat synthetic for large washes
  • #3 or #4 and #10 round synthetic (e.g. gold sable of taklon)
  • Small cheap (or old) synthetic round brush for applying masking fluid
  • #4 or #6 rigger
  • Optional – Ό”, 1”, 2” flat synthetic
Support boards:
  • 1 6”x19” and/or 18x4” or 26x34” (depending on paper size used) e.g. masonite, coroplast or plexiglass
Palette:
  • White plastic palette with big wells and large mixing area and a lid e.g. Robert E Wood, John Pike, Quiller or Richeson
Other Materials:
  • 2 plastic containers for water, 500 ml or larger
  • HB pencil and a kneaded or soft white plastic eraser
  • Masking tape
  • Masking fluid and pick-up eraser
  • Stiff plastic or small metal palette knife and an old credit card (or part of)
  • Small toweling rag and paper towel or toilet tissue
  • Small natural sponge with rough texture
  • Old stiff toothbrush
  • Spray bottle (fine mist)
